This was only my second time attending GaymerX but it continues to be one of my favorite gaming convention experiences because of what a diverse and welcoming environment it boasts.
The hotel lobby posed as a spacious and colorful go between the upper floors where the insightful panels took place, and the lower levels which housed the expo floor and access to oodles of fun co-op retro gaming in the arcade.
There were so many people just being able to enjoy themselves and express their fandoms whether though amazing cosplay or just excellent t-shirts and hats and pins.
My main priority at GX4 was to attend panels and my needs were fulfilled with such panels as “Butts in Games”, “Selfies as Self Love”, and a truly emotional and eye-opening panel for trans women and allies.
Around these talks I managed to meet up with old and new friends, browse and speak with amazing developers and artists, and and get in some free play of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time which was set up in the arcade along with games ranging from Mario Kart to Halo to DDR.
I was sad to have only been able to spend one short day at GX4 but I’m already looking forward to attending next year.
